The 1997 - '99 XK8 and XJ8 are notorious for failures due to the capacitors leaking electrolytic fluid, causing an acidic corrosion on the circuit board. This chemical eats up metal, especially the copper traces your printed circuit board is made up of.
This is usually repairable and the ECU can be restored to full function, and the capacitor issue will never return again.
